Magaly Barnola-Otaola’s exhibition history includes various group shows and exhibits, beginning in 1976 with a group show at the Cristobal Rojas School of Visual Arts in Caracas. She later went on to exhibit at Salon Michelena in 1998, the Caracas Metro Exhibit at La Hoyada Station in 1990, Salon Venezuela in New York 1992, and Salon Aragua in 1993. Her solo exhibits include a show in 1991 at Salon Camuri Grande and at Aspecto Gallery in 1992. Barnola-Otaola received First Prize for her Man Time Series at the Caracas Metro 1991 and her work, a China ink drawing, also garnered the cover of “Camuri” Magazine in 1978. Since 2010 to the present, the artist has developed new steps in her creation towards figurative works based on the topic of “Man-Technology”.

Dynamic rhythms and centrifugal lines intertwine with vibrant figurative shapes, culminating in a rapturous explosion of forms and forceful lines. She re-creates images from her original drawings using new media such as photography and large format canvases, inverting and re-constructing her original images into new works. In September 2011, she participated with her work Titans. New digital Photography in a curated show by Curator Milagros Bello, Ph.D. at the Shanghai Art Fair in Shanghai, China. In October 2011, her solo show Titans. New digital Photography is presented at Curator’s Voice Art Projects Contemporary Art, in the Wynwood Arts District in Miami, Florida. Magaly Barnola-Otaola currently lives and works between Caracas, Venezuela and Miami, Florida.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Magaly Barnola-Otaola, a vibrant , intuitive woman from Venezuela, directs her interests towards a search for the cosmic truth, in order to offer us, through her art, a vision of how she interprets the opening words of St. John’s gospel: “In the beginning was the word (…) All things were made through by him (…) In Him was life and the life was the light(… ).”

A painter of vigorous strokes full of radiance and life, whose palette is rich in pure and warm colors, she leads us into a universe where the mythical and symbolic dance an unending waltz beginning with the “Cosmic Cloud,” pristine expression without beginning or end, to continue its rhythm with the succeeding ordering of our planet Earth, and closing the circle with “Man – technology.” Precursor of a new astral chaos?
